We think most all headache sufferers know the difference between a tension headache and a migraine. Yet cluster headaches are even more intense and profound than migraines. And certain things can trigger all these different types of headaches.

For instance, changing sleep patterns and stress can and does trigger all types of headaches. But each type of headache also has its own set of triggers that can give a sufferer an attack.

Below we'll list what can help a headache in each of the most painful ones.

  • Migraines are a form of headache which are typically considered the most intense, and disabling. Migraines are chronic in nature, which means if someone has them, they may happen often.
  • Typically, migraines are one sided, but may hurt all over.
  • Migraines affect as many as 24 million people in the United States. 

More than three million women, and one million men have one or more severe headaches every month, and 28 million just in the United Stares experience migraines.

About all migraine sufferers have their unique set of triggers or causes that are tailored just for them. While some never find theirs, others eventually learn what they can do and what will give them an attack. There're around three hundred causes for migraines and headaches.   • Reducing stress, relaxing more, and keeping a regular sleep pattern won't hurt. 
  • Migraine headache medication may be prescribed to decrease the attacks and frequency of them.
  • Print off a diary, and fill it in each day to pin point when you have a migraine and the events leading up to it. Some foods and beverages consumed a day before the attack isn't uncommon.

What can help a headache if it's a cluster.

Cluster headaches are a neurological disease that involves a great deal of pain.The duration of this headache ranges from as short as fifteen minutes, to three hours or more. An attack is rapid, and most often without the symptoms that a migraine has. But  they are often diagnosed as migraine headaches. The pain of clusters is much greater than in other headache conditions, including severe migraines, and experts believe that it may be the most severe pain known to medical science. The symptoms of a cluster-headache are:

  • Drooping eyelid.
  • Redness of the covering of the eyeball.
  • Tearing, runny nose. 
  • Less commonly, facial blushing, swelling, or sweating.

These features are known as the autonomic symptoms.

Triggers that could cause cluster headache attacks are:

  • Nitroglycerin can sometimes bring on clusters in sufferers in a manner similar to spontaneous attacks.
  • Drinking alcohol, or eating chocolate is a common trigger.
  • Exposure to petroleum solvents, or perfume is also recognized as a trigger for cluster-headaches.
  • Some people have a decreased tolerance to heat, and becoming overheated may act as a trigger. 
  • Napping causes a headache for some sufferers, while for others lack of sleep triggers them.
  • Smoking can trigger cluster migraines, and are often found in people with a heavy addiction to cigarette smoking. 
  • Certain foods

Treatments for cluster-headaches.

The medications to treat clusters are classified as either:

  • Abortive, or preventative medicine. 
  • Rapid breathing of pure oxygen for five to fifteen minutes.
  • Pain medications such as aspirin, and ibuprofen have no effect on the pain from  cluster headaches.  
  • Abortive treatments only decrease the duration of the headache,  and keeps it from reaching its peak, rather than eliminating it entirely. 
  • Preventive treatment is always given for clusters, to be started at the first sign of a new cluster cycle.

Pain medicine taken each day can disrupt the body and make the head hurt worst. Migraine preventives work for a big percent of sufferers but come with undesirable side effects. Headache sufferers have used with success that are also doctor recommended supplements such as:

  • Feverfew, and butterbur, two herbs that were used for centuries before conventional medicines existed to fight migraines. 
  • Ginger to help with nausea, even Ginger Ale helps to fight nausea . 
  • Vitamins such as B-3 and B-2 are used for headaches. 
  • Also most migrainures have a deficiency of magnesium, another cause of headaches. 
  • CoQ10 may be beneficial.

What can help a headache may be as simple as trying to stay clear of anything that could trigger one, taking supplements that are tried and tested for headache sufferers, and if that doesn't help then try preventive medicines for help.
