A Visual Migraine can be Quite Scary!!
A visual migraine is the perceptual disturbance experienced by some migraine sufferers before a migraine headache. It's also caled a optical migraine, or ocular migraine. It often comes on as the perception of a strange light, an unpleasant smell or confusing thoughts or experiences. It can also be experienced by some people with epilepsy before a seizure. When occurring, auras allow epileptics time to prevent injury to themselves. The weird thing is, it shows how complicated you and I are, my wife suffers from migraines, but has no vision problems. I, on the other hand, have no migraines, but I have occasionally had the Zigzag lines. And they last about ten minutes. Do I have visual migraine? Your aura, or visual headache sensation, can include some or a combination of the following. #(1)Visual Changes #(2)Bright lights #(3)Zigzag lines #(4)Distortions in the size or shape of objects #(5)scintillating scotoma #(6)Shimmering, pulsating patches, often curved #(7)Also tunnel vision About twenty to thirty percent of individuals who suffer migraine have aura. They appear gradually over 5 to 20 minutes and generally last less than sixty minutes. The headache phase of the migraine attack usually begins within sixty minutes of the end of the aura phase, but it is sometimes delayed up to several hours, and it can be missing entirely like my wifes. Symptoms of migraine aura can be visual, sensory, or motor in nature Visual aura is the most common of the neurological disturbances.
There's a disturbance of vision consisting usually of unformed flashes of white, or black but rarely of multicolored lights, or formations of dazzling zigzag lines often arranged like the battlements of a castle. Do you have this type of migraine? Some migraine sufferers even complain of blurred or shimmering or cloudy vision, as though they were looking through thick or smoked glass. Some may have a feeling of pins and needles in the hand and arm, as well as in the nose, and mouth area. Other symptoms of the aura phase can include auditory or olfactory hallucinations, temporary dysphagia, vertigo, tingling or numbness of the face and extremities,and hypersensitivity to touch. Also weakness, and unsteadiness. Much can be experienced from these migraines. If you experence a visual migraine, go to your doctor , and make sure there is nothing else wrong.
