We would like to hear from spouses of migraineurs.
Although spouses of migraine sufferers don't have the pain, aren't nauseous, and vomiting like their better half, make no mistake, it's a roller coaster ride just the same, isn't it?
This page isn't just going to be addressing spouses of migraine sufferers, but about anyone who has a loved one, and they have to watch the pain and suffering that they go through with migraine headaches.
I was sitting in a headache clinic office one day, and a woman made a comment to me that I had never gave much thought to. She said she admired me and the older generation for staying with our spouses.
Her words were, the younger generation will leave their spouses if their migraines get to bad. Although I wouldn't like to believe that, we had an appointment with a doctor one day, and a young woman was crying. She said that her boyfriend was leaving her because of her migraines. That sucks, doesn't it?
Statistics say that about 5% of spouses leave because of their better halves migraines. Out of 28,000,000 in the USA, that could end up with a significant number of divorces just because of migraines.
This roller coaster ride could be from a child that has migraines to a Dad, Mom, Brother, or Sister. If you're a spouse of a chronic migraineur, both of your lives are on hold.
Of course I know migraine sufferers that have mild to moderate migraines, and life isn't so bad with these migraines. But I also know migraineurs that have become hermits because of their migraines.
Wouldn't you agree that the most frustrating feeling when a loved one has a migraine, is a feeling of hopelessness? I'm used to fixing anything that my wife needs fixed, but I can't fix a migraine. You can't take your loved ones pain away.
What can spouses of migraineurs do?
I've spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours finding information, many hours on our computer, driving thousands of miles, finding doctors, going to pick up medicine, and I still don't think I've done enough.
Spouses of migraineurs each have their own guidelines when it comes to helping their loved ones.
One thing we will say to spouses of migraineurs is to hang in there, and one day there will be a ray of sunshine over our heads instead of the clouds, when our loved ones headache and migraines are put on hold.
