Even some doctors make the wrong diagnose sometimes. Let's see if we can sort out the difference between migrane headaches, and just tension headaches, and give the symptoms, since the pain is at the same place.(Your Head)
A migrane is much more than a headache. One difference between a migraine and headache is the severe migrane symptoms that go with migraines. A screening tool for migranes that your doctor should go by, revolves around three items.
That will be the disability of your headache, the nausea related to it, and how photophobia (sensitive to light, light bothers my wife when she has migraines), you are. If you pass these, then you have had, or have migraines. That's not to say that you can't have a headache, and not suffer with migraines to. At one time my wife had a doctor that diagnosed her with tension type headaches, and migraines to.
Many migraine sufferers have both types of headaches to deal with. There's a difference, although you still have a headache.
The symptoms of migrane are, but not limited to:
Throbbing pain usually on one side of the head, and all across the forehead with sone migraines. One of the most common signs of migraines is nausea, and vomiting, and sensitivity to light, and sound.
Less common migrane symptoms you could have are cold hands , and feet, or diarrhea. Also, one of the signs that you may be suffering with migranes is just your daily activity can make your head hurt worse.
"These are the migrane symptoms, but please add more at the bottom of the page if you have experienced any different ones. It's easy to do."
It's also a possibility that you can have several of these migraine phases with your headache.
The first phase you may have, and after awhile should be recognized by you, or someone in your family so you can be prepared when your migraine hits, is fatigue, sleepiness, a craving for salty or sweet foods, irritability, depressed or feeling high, and maybe even excessive yawning.
The second migrane phase is only experienced by about twenty percent of classic migraine sufferers. You may have aura which is visual disturbances, and less common can be prickly sensations to your hand, arm, nose, or mouth.
Also less common migrane symptoms can be your taste, smell or hearing that can be affected.
The third phase is what no migraine sufferer wants, and that is the pain, known as the headache phase.
The last of the migraine phases you will have is one of being drained, and as my better half would often tell me, it's still there, just dull. Take good care, and don't bounce back to quick at doing to much physical activity. If you do, your migraine may recur.
Migrane symptoms verses tension headache symptoms.
While I know that you would agree with me when I say that no headache is a good headache, the migraines are second to cluster headaches pain wise. Tension headaches account for more headaches than migraines, and cluster headaches.
Somewhere around 45,000,000 just in the USA alone. You see how large that number is?
Here's a little info on tension type headaches. You will notice a difference in tension headaches, and migraines.
You may feel like you have a vice squeezing your forehead, and around your temples with a tension headache. It may start in the shoulders, or your neck area, and work up. Where as migraine is often one sided in the front of the face.
Most of the time you can go about your business with a tension headache. But a migrane symptom can be so severe, with the nausea, and vomiting, you'll have to go to bed.
A tension headache may be caused by muscle tension in your neck, head, and shoulder area, where migrane symptoms and causes are much more complex. The headache and migraine treatment plan can be similar, but usually migranes take stronger pain relievers to ease the pain. Migraines take a lot out of you, and usually take longer to rebound.
