Migraine Vertigo May be Avoided By Prevention!!!

Migraine vertigo is a vestibular disorder.

These migraines can last from seconds to days. Fifty percent of people that suffer with migraines, also suffer with motion sickness while non migrainers only suffer with motion sickness  between five to twenty percent of the time.  

Having a migraine is aggravating enough but combine it with pain, dizziness, and nausea puts sufferers to bed. Keep in mind that there're quite a few reasons for vertigo. If you're often having bouts of vertigo, a specialist should be seen.


The most common causes of vertigo or dizziness.

  • Seizure 
  • Motion sickness
  • Migraines
  • Vestibular neuronitis, and begine paroxysmal. 

Since the  cause for migraines is an arterial spasm and dilatation of vessels supplying the brain, the migraine vertigo is therefore presumed to be generated in the central nervous system.


Migrainous vertigo triggers.

  • Stress 
  • Sleep deprivation 
  • Hormonal changes for women. 

It's also important for a doctor to examine someone with vertigo because Meniere's disease has some symptoms of migrainous vertigo, such as dizziness that can last for hours, to nausea, and vomiting.

Almost a third of the population, at one time or another suffer with vertigo, and dizziness. Matter of fact, some migrainures  suffer with silent migraine vertigo, whereas their head may not hurt but they suffer with spells of dizziness.

Migraines may be associated with vestibular symptoms that include:

  • Episodic vertigo.
  • Chronic motion sensitivity. 
  • Nonspecific dizziness. 

Migraine sufferers that have classic migraine attacks, suffer with more vertigo bouts than migraine sufferers that don't have aura. Migrainous vertigo is common, but quite often not diagnosed in the general population. 


Treatment or prevention for migraine vertigo.

First, treating the migraines with preventive medicine and abortive's, then next on the agenda is to avoid  migraine triggers such as:

  • Stress should be reduced for less headaches.
  • Caffeine is a stimulate that triggers headaches
  • Foods that can trigger migraines. 
  • Alcohol should be avoided. 
  • MSG found in many processed foods should be thought about. 
  • Processed meats such as sausage, bacon, ham, and hot dog weenies.

Avoiding the above is ineffective for stopping vertigo bouts, but can prevent migraines. Your doctor will prescribe the medicine that he/she feels that is appropriate to stop those spells of severe dizziness. This would be their call.


Supplements to relieve migraine vertigo.

Feverfew Plant

Natural remedies can also provide symptomatic relief of dizziness and nausea associated with vertigo and improve inner ear balance. 

  • For nausea, ginger, peppermint, and vitamin B-6 work well.
  • Feverfew, and butterbur are two herbs used as a migraine preventive.
