Magnesium deficiency symptoms and what can cause a deficiency.

Magnesium is a fascinating mineral existing in our body.

  • Constipation, menstrual cramps (women), difficulty swallowing, urinary spasms, and loud noise sensitivity.
  • Other magnesium deficient symptoms include anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks, premenstrual irritability, constant movement, restlessness, and agoraphobia.

  • Numbness, tingling, or anything that feels like zaps, or vibratory sensations.

Magnesium plays an important part in maintaining peace in our cardiovascular system.

  • High blood pressure, angina due to the spasms of the arteries, heart palpitations, heart arrhythmia, and mitral valve prolapse. Severe magnesium deficiency can cause death from heart failure.

Be aware that not all of the magnesium symptoms have to be present. One example is mitral valve prolapse. With that a person could have panic attacks, anxiety, and palpitations.

Just as we need water everyday, we also have to have magnesium daily to maintain a healthy body.


Causes of magnesium deficiency.

  • Chronic vomiting
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Abuse of alcohol
  • Certain drugs can deplete magnesium levels

Treatments when there's magnesium deficiency symptoms.

Although the kidneys are very efficient at maintaining body levels, they fall short in cases where the diet is deficient. Magnesium oxide or magnesium hydroxide or milk of magnesia depend on stomach acid for neutralization before they can be absorbed, and thus are relatively poor oral magnesium sources, on average.

Magnesium aspartate, chloride, lacate, citrate and glycinate each have bioavailability four times greater than the oxide form, and are equivalent to each other per amount of magnesium. These are the ones to take to help with magnesium deficiency symptoms.

If you have a teenager, do any of the magnesium deficiency symptoms above ring a bell? This is very common in adolescents, and children. Have you ever seen any children that liked dark green leafy vegetables, wheat germ, or cashews, foods that most children don't like?

Children seldom eat the foods that are rich in magnesium, but will drink large amounts of milk. Remember what we said earlier about loads of calcium (milk) and a deficiency of magnesium, and what can happen? Something to think about in young ones.


What current research has found out about magnesium deficiency.

  • In rats, a magnesium deficiency reduces life span.
  • Magnesium deficiency through its effects on every aspect of the body, accelerates the aging process.
  • In developed countries, magnesium intake is less than it should be, with older individuals more prone due to diseases and so forth.
  • And one to remember, after age seventy, magnesium absorption is about two thirds of what it is at the age of thirty.

Magnesium is essential for all life, human and plant. Without magnesium we wouldn't last long. If you have any of the magnesium deficiency symptoms above, or even suspect you do, have a test done to ease the mind.
