What Causes your Headache and Eye Strain?

Headache and eye strain can be from close activities such as reading, computer work, or continuous visual tasks.

You can also have headache and eye pressure problems from Glaucoma.

First, continuously focusing on anything for a period of time can put a strain on the ciliary muscle (a ring of striated smooth muscle in the eye's middle layer that controls accommodation for viewing objects at varying distances .)

This causes the eyes to get irritated and uncomfortable. If you focus your eyes on a distant object once in awhile that may save you from having a headache. Or it may indicate you need your eyes checked.

The strain caused by the different forms of astigmatism often causes headaches, and also a light insufficiency of the extra ocular ball muscles can give headaches in some people. What you're probably having is tension headaches and eye strain pain.

An ocular headache from eye strain is just about always bilateral, is rarely severe or comes with nausea or vomiting, and it's about always a daylight headache. If you have a headache that's not like this, most likely it's not an eye strain headache.

You can also have a headache and eye strain twitch.

This is caused by eye strain that can cause certain motor disturbances. Stress, and fatigue are the two most common reasons that you have eye strain. My eyes have done this when I strain my eyes to long.

Although twitching can be severe, if it's due to just eye strain, it will usually quit after you rest your eyes. Call your doctor if your upper eyelid droops, redness or swelling occurs, or discharge is coming from your eye, or your eye strain twitch closes your eyelid, and stays with you more than a week. There's several different reasons for headache and eye strain pressure, one being glaucoma.

Glaucoma is increased pressure in the eye, and can cause headache and eye pain. Over time it can also damage the optic nerve so you may not be able to see.

Have regular eye exams to rule this out. ( I have Glaucoma in my right eye, and lost some of my vision before I realized what was going on. I didn't have any headache, although in people that are susceptible to headaches it can trigger them.)

What are headache and eye strain floaters, what causes this?

First, most people have floaters in their field of vision. But here is the reason you can have headaches from floaters. Most people don't notice them (I've had them) but if the eye floaters become a constant distraction, and irritation, then trying to focus on them or moving your eyes around to see them can cause eye strain, thus encouraging headaches.

See an optician about them and he will examine the back of your eye to determine what's going on.

Also a lack of b complex vitamins can cause itching, burning, bloodshot, and eyes that water to much.

Vitamin B-2 has been shown to reduce the incidence of floaters and halos around lights, or objects. Vitamin C also helps to lower ocular (eye pressure) and protect and strengthen the mucous membranes, including those of the eyes. Buy Vitamin C that has flavonglycosides in it. Don't forget, taking vitamins can also help headaches. So you can help your headaches and eye strain plus your eye floaters at the same time.

Our last page is about migraines with aura. Those migraines can be frighting. Our next page is on a very severe, and possibilty a serious headache called a thunderclap headache. You should go to the ER with this headache.
