It works better than others, but the side effects... I have only been on Depakote for about 8 months, but on my next appointment, I am going to ask to be switched. It is becomming less effective, and I gained over 30 pounds IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS! I am taking the strongest diuretic, but it only makes the water retention less awful, not better. It also changed my hair , makes me tired all the time, and upsets my stomach. I'm at my wits end
