Childrens Migraines Can Have Disturbing Symptoms..

Childrens migraines can begin at an early age.

Learn your child's migraine symptoms to help them abort a headache early if possible, and the causes or triggers of their headaches.

Can changing their daily habits do as well as medicines?

It may if a child has something that is triggering their migraine, and can pinpoint what may be causing the attacks. Migraine triggers in young ones are just like migraine triggers adults have. The only difference is young ones may not be able to figure out what may be causing the pain.

We have an eleven year old Grandson, and what you tell him will be gone from his memory in five minutes (unless it's cartoons). Here's where you come in. You'll have to do the detective work. Print off a diary to keep track of what goes on with your child's migraines.

If your child has decided to go on a diet, what he/she doesn't eat may be triggering their migraines.

The first time a child has a migraine will probably not be the last, but the first headache requires a trip to the doctor to rule anything else out that may have caused the headache.

Childrens migraines in different age groups will have to be accessed differently. If you have a small child he/she may not be able to express what they're going through.

The migraine symptom for a young headache sufferer may be :

  • A pale look
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • They may also just want to go to sleep.
  • Irritable
  • Cry
  • Want to be in a dark quite place just like an adult that has a migraine

Although young children may not be able to express themselves, childrens migraines on a older child, five to ten years of age can be explained better, although the migraine symptoms will be the same.

Additional symptoms to watch out for are:

  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Excessive sweating
  • Swollen nasal passages
  • Increased in thirst
  • Dark circles under the eyes

Childrens migraines may be more intense, and frequent as they age, so learn their triggering factors as early as possible to help them. Training a child to look for the beginning of their migraine will help them put a stop to their headache early.

Children can suffer with classic migraines also.

They could see or have more symptoms:

  • Bright spots, or changes in their vision
  • Sense of smell may be different
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mood changes
  • Food cravings
  • Stiff neck
  • Irritability
  • Fatigue
  • Even numbness or tingling on one side of the body, such as in a complicated migraine
  • Feeling of coldness
  • Repeated yawning
  • Fluid retention

Not to say all child migraines have all these symptoms.

Migraines develop as a result of triggers such as chemicals, and foods just to name a few. If you have a small child that has migraines, the list of triggers will be much less than a school age child. They won't be around as many.

In some adults and children aspartame can trigger headaches. Don't let your child drink your diet drink. Read on their vitamins and foods. Some have aspartame in them.

On school age children, childrens migraines may be triggered by:

  • School pressure in itself is hard on young ones, and also worst on teenagers. Excitement, getting upset, low blood sugar from not eating right, irregular sleep habits, all can be migraine triggers.
  • School children usually don't have an even sleep pattern. It's usually to much sleep on weekends, and not enough on school days.
  • Also, such as migraines in adults, older children can have their migraines triggered by loud noises, bright lights, by playing sports, and exercise, such as Phys Ed in school.
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG) found in hot dogs, and many other foods can cause migraines in some children.
  • Childrens migraines can be from celiac disease, which is a gluten intolerance.
  • To much caffeine can trigger migraines, and school age children usually drink to many.

Children that have migraine attacks may be put on preventive medicines if all else fails to help with their attacks. Medicines always come with side effects. As in adults, looking for what may be the migraine culprit and eliminating it will be much better for the child.

We know it doesn't always work but do try to make a connection on child migraines. That will help their pain, and your agony over watching your child suffer.
