Is an Alcohol Headache Dangerous?
Alcohol headache, or hangover headaches as they are called, effect people that aren't even prone to having headaches. How a hangover headache happens is unclear, but it seems to be from metabolic disturbances in the brain. Drink enough alcohol, and wham, you'll get a headache. It's thought that drinking to much alcohol causes a type of brain hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar. When it comes to low blood sugar, alcohol such as bourbon, brandy, scotch, vodka, rye, gin, cognac, and whiskey will create a drop in your blood sugar. And to, your chance of getting a headache after drinking alcohol may be inherited, "if you inherited your migraines and headaches from your parents". It's not only the alcohol that can give you hangover headaches, but the ingredients, and flavorings that go in the alcohol. Drinks such as red wine, champagne, and bourbon (darkest alcohol )are often mentioned as headache and migraine triggers because they have more congeners, which give each drink its flavor, and color. They are the ones that trigger headaches the most. Some forms of alcohol contain sulfites, tyramine, and histamine. All are famous for dialing blood vessels. Also, drinking alcohol on an empty stomach is much worse about dropping your blood sugar than if you eat a meal containing fats, protein, and carbohydrates. We live in a small community, and I've also heard of a couple of people over the years that have died from this. Consuming large amounts of alcohol quickly is extremely dangerous.Be very careful of taking something for your pain the next day, if you have a alcohol headache. But for each one of us, we are addicted to something, and sometimes we suffer the consequences from eating or drinking something that we know may harm us at some point in our life.
